Will the Real Sarah Palin please stand up
VS
The prospect of the vice presidential candidate meeting her lookalike comes after she told reporters she would love to appear on the show.
The Republican said: “I love her, she’s a hoot and she’s so talented. It would be fun to meet her, imitate her and keep on giving her new material.”
She’s a hoot? Ok, the cornfest has definitely become a gimmick and Palin is definitely milking it. Can’t say I blame her. A good friend of mine also said Barack, was a walking gimmick himself, can’t say I disagree with the man. But this is a prime example of what modern politics has become unfortunately, it’s all about gimmick, and this will eventually determine who will stride into the oval office come November. Television is no longer an entertaining novelty in America, it’s become an essential tool in the political war zone. As noted in the article if Palin makes it to SNL, she will snag a few more votes. Is this fair? No. But it’s definitely not an unprecedented move. Barack, purchased a half hour of network time, is this fair game? No, but he’s Barack so I’m going to pretend it is.
The show’s executive producer, Lorne Michaels, said he was not actively seeking Mrs Palin, but added: “All in good time.”
The show has a history of political walk-ons and there are three more episodes before the election.
Barack Obama had also been lined up to appear on the show but cancelled at the last minute, saying it made his party look stupid.
Dumb move, Obami… not smooth at all.

You and your friend are right about the gimmickiness of modern politics. And that some of this is because of the way they have to engage with the media.
The problem is that in the case of Sarah Palin the folksiness gimmick is used to mask real ignorance that would make her dangerous as VP.

She’s already dangerous. Hurting my eyes with her awfulness.

Once Nov 5 comes around and she’s left with the choices of returning to Alaska or posing for Heff, I wonder which choice she’ll make.
